Twitch Founder and Y Combinator Partner Justin Kan joined us today to discuss the rise of e-sports, Amazon acquired Twitch for $970 million in 2014, the live video surge catalyzed by juggernauts like Facebook, and why he's so bullish on Snapchat. Kan highlighted Y Combinator’s Snapchat Pitch Competition where the San Francisco based accelerator is accepting startup pitches until Thursday, May 19th. Ten startups will take over Justin’s Snapchat discussing why they should be accepted and funded by the Fellowship program. The competition was inspired by three entrepreneurs from YC’s summer batch who connected with Justin on Snapchat prior to applying, demonstrating the medium’s reach and saturation amongst entrepreneurs. After founding and investing in numerous startups, YC backs 250 annually, Kan’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is: “Start building! The first step is always the hardest.” Tune in for more on the Facebook Live features Justin’s excited about, why this is a game-changing opportunity for sponsors, and how Snapchat is democratizing broadcasting by making it ‘live-ish.’
