"Community" Star on Why His New Movie Is Heading to the Theater
2m 31s
Danny Pudi, the actor best-known for his role on comedy series "Community," discusses his first-ever starring role in the upcoming film "The Tiger Hunter" and the parallels the story has to his own family. "The Tiger Hunter" explores a young man's relationship with his father as he travels to the U.S. from India to make something of himself and impress a woman that he is in love with.
We talk about the theater experience and how poorly this year's summer box office performed, with many crediting streaming services and on-demand rentals for taking theater revenue. Pudi notes that he still thinks there is somethig to be said about going to the movies and sharing the experience with your loved ones.
We ask Pudi whether the film is taking any sort of political stance and whether he wants viewers to walk away with any message. Pudi discusses DACA and the people impacted, adding that the film is in fact about "the people" and is more of a celebration of immigration in the U.S.
We also ask Pudi whether he feels any burden when it comes to telling stories like this. Pudi admits that there is a certain fear that you might not be representing a culture as fully as you might want.
