George Kantor, Senior Systems Scientist at the Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, discusses "Farmview," which is the school's project to tackle the emerging food crisis. In the next 20 years, the world population will hit 9.6 billion, and certain parts of the world will struggle with food. Right now, CMU is using robotics, sensing, and various forms of A.I. to research the best ways to tackle the crisis, including finding sustainable plants that are able to produce a large amount of food on small pieces of land. We discuss whether these technologies will impact human jobs and what parts of the world have the most cause for concern.
