Rachel Quigley, Editor-in-Chief of Wetpaint Entertainment, gives us a recap of the 2017 Emmys. We first dig into Hulu's big win over Netflix with five awards compared to Netflix's four. Hulu's night was made even bigger when "The Handmaid's Tale" made history by taking home Oustanding Drama Series - the first time any streaming service has taken home the coveted award. We also ask Quigley whether Hulu's big night will have any impact on consumer watching habits. Quigley adds that she bets that if Hulu does not see an actual uptick in subscribers, there will at least be an increase in people considering the platform. We talk with Rachel about the success of HBO's "Big Little Lies" and whether there will be a season 2 for the limited series. Diversity in TV was a big winner as well. Riz Ahmed became the first Asian man and Muslim to win an acting award. Lena Waithe took home the award for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series with Aziz Ansari for "Masters of None" and gave an impassioned speech for the LGBTQIA community. And we discuss the politics of the night. Host Stephen Colbert's monologue and bits throughout the night were filled with references to President Trump. Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Alec Baldwin both took hits at the President during their acceptance speeches. And of course, an appearance by the real Sean Spicer...enough said.
