Albertsons is buying prepared-meal service Plated, making the company the first national grocer to acquire a meal-kit company. Wall Street Journal reporter Heather Haddon says the deal came out of nowhere, but thinks it will give Albertsons an edge over other companies in the space. Customers will be now able to buy a rotating selection of Plated meal-kits at Albertsons stores in the coming months.
