Deborah Campbell is the author of "A Disappearance in Damascus: Friendship and Survival in the Shadow of War." It tells the story of her travels to Syria in 2007 to cover the Iraqi refugee crisis. When Campbell's friend Ahlam, an Iraqi refugee, is seized, she begins a desparate quest to find her. The story, Campbell says, shows the power of friendship in the midst of international crisis.
