IBM is collaborating with companies including Dole, Nestle, and Unilever to tackle food safety using blockchain technology. Cheddar's Hope King spoke with the company's Vice President of Blockchain, Brigid McDermott, at the Mobile World Congress about how the company is using the technology, best known for tracking cryptocurrencies, in conjunction with these consumer goods makers. McDermott says IBM is getting big businesses to work together with this technology to solve big problems. She sees blockchain as an "enabler of transformation" in this space because it has the ability to act as a trusted system of record.
